Maryland Swimmers Head to 2012 Olympic Trials

Just when the swim and dive program is coming to and end…two seniors get a chance for one last hurrah during their final competitive season. 
Twelve members of the UMD Swim and Dive team, including seniors Ginny Glover and Alexa Hamilton, will go to the 2012 Olympic trials this June in Omaha, Nebraska.

The University of Maryland Class of 2012 will be graduating in about two weeks…it is a culmination of four years of hard work and features a University alumnus as the commencement speaker who is someone that all graduates can look up to. 
John Berry will be addressing the graduates of the Class of 2012. A 1980 graduate and Director of the United States Office of Personnel Management, he is the highest openly-gay official in the United States Government.

After months of planning, Maryland Images… the University of Maryland’s official tour guide organization… made some big chances to its tour. For a start, the tour guides have given up their signature move: walking backwards!

Len Bias Remembered

Over two decades ago Maryland superstar athlete, Len Bias died of a cocaine induced heart attack after being drafted by the Boston Celtics. Today his tragic death still keeps him off the Maryland Hall of Fame. TWE’s Brittany Waters talks to Maryland alumni and current sports journalists about Bias’ legacy and why his name is missing.
Len Bias is remembered today in a the book Born Ready: The Mixed Legacy of Len Bias written by UMD alum, Dave Ungrady.

As University of Maryland Seniors get ready to graduate… The Diary has churned out a new ice cream…called ‘Senior Swirl,’ in honor of the graduating class of 2012. In Fact, the Dairy has a number of new flavors in the works. Kathy Johnson takes us behind the scenes to get the scoop on this College Park tradition that dates back more than 80 years.

Hookah bars are spreading all over the country and although they have become very popular, are they healthy too? Rachel Manu takes us to a hookah den right here in College Park.
Cafe Hookah is the newest edition to the College Park Shopping Center, just off of Route 1 and close to campus.
College Canine Companions
By: Lauren Robinson CanineCompanions Students at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland volunteer with the Canine Companions for independence, a non profit organization that works to train service dogs. Students adopt a live-in puppy for a year and a half to train the dog in following basic commands, the beginning skills needed to later function as assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities and emotional disorders.

Many students view graduation as a milestone of achievement–the beginning of a new chapter of their lives. For Tafisha Edwards it filled her with anxiety. She decided to search for the answer a question that plagued her: Why did I decide to be a journalism major four years ago? 
With graduation quickly approaching, seniors are reflecting on their choice of major…and whether or not it was a good one.

He should be enjoying his retirement, but 91-year-old Holocaust survivor Leo Bretholz, who in 1942 escaped from a French train on its way to Auschwitz, is fighting to have a federal law passed that would bar French railway company, the SNCF, from bidding on lucrative US rail contracts.
